Planetary Exploration, Horizon 2061: a Community Foresight Exercise

Abstract:

We will present the preliminary results of a foresight exercise designed to produce a community Vision of Planetary Exploration up to the 2061 horizon. This Vision will be built on a concurrent analysis of the four “pillars” of planetary exploration: 1.The key priority science questions; 2.The representative planetary missions that need to be flown to address these questions; 3.The enabling technologies needed to fly this set of ambitious missions; 4.The supporting infrastructures. In this report, we will talk the results of a forum. This is an international community forum convened in Bern, Switzerland last year and identified the first two pillars, including scientific approach, overarching goal, top research objectives, from research objectives to detailed measurement objectives: Solar System exploration and drawing the contours of a strategic framework for Solar System exploration. We will also discuss how to identify a set of planetary missions addressing our objectives up to the 2061 Horizon.
