The University of Arizona and The Next Generation of Astronomical Facilities
Astronomers work to explore, discover, and understand the Universe. Answering challenging questions requires talented scientists and engineers, technological innovation, and development of new capabilities. The University of Arizona is currently actively involved in the development and construction of several major new astronomical facilities that together address a diverse and exciting set of important questions, ranging from the nature of dark energy to search for habitable exoplanets. I will review the University of Arizona’s participation and the status of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST), the 6.5m Telescope San Pedro Martir (TSPM), the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT), and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
